From Farm to Form: Nature’s Curves, Zero Chemistry

Traditional methodologies for producing curved furniture profiles rely on the thermoforming of multiple laminated wood veneers bonded with synthetic adhesives.

*Innovation in Curved Furniture Manufacturing: Direct Moulding of Agricultural Fiber Composites

XTD : A new kind of material

XTD is made using a revolutionary and innovative renewable material technology developed by RM. XTD is composed of up to 95% straw, and can be used as an alternative for wood, thus reducing the need for deforestation and agricultural straw burning.
With the creation of XTD, straw is being utilized on large scale in China for the first time to produce a new material with extraordinary characteristics like moisture and flame resistance, durability, as well as sound and heat insulation. Agricultural straw itself has good plasticity and flexibility, and can absorb printing ink easily. This makes it an ideal candidate for different surface treatments. Since XTD contains no wood or plastic, it uses no formaldehyde additives in its manufacturing process and is not susceptible to termites.

Innovative sustainable manufacturing processes

We now introduce a novel, sustainable manufacturing process enabling the direct moulding of complex curved profiles from densified agricultural fibres (e.g., wheat straw, hemp stalk). Critically, this process:

1. Eliminates Synthetic Binders: Requires no petroleum-derived plastic resins or chemical adhesives.

2. Utilizes Renewable Feedstock: Sources raw material from annually renewable agricultural fibre residues.

3. Reduces Toxicity: Generates no toxic chemical byproducts or emissions during forming.

*This represents a significant technological advancement beyond conventional bentwood techniques, offering enhanced material sustainability and streamlined production.

XTD is a formula for innovation

We have been tirelessly innovating since the creation of XTD. The formula is now being applied beyond logistics and packaging materials, and extending to flooring and lifestyle furniture. XTD’s innovative formula will soon be a new option for users of traditional wood and plastic.

Our innovation is aimed at helping businesses enhance their performance, realize environmentally-friendly business procedures and transform their organization. All this will ultimately help consumers materialize their dream of a trendy and sustainable home.

Working together for an innovative, sustainable and green future.
